A Doodle Diary: September 2012

My younger sister turns 16.

Problems with short hair:

An adorable pair of brothers were riding around their little bicycles while wearing superhero costumes.

A Doodle Diary: undated

More movie thoughts.

1. The Avengers

2. Brave

A Doodle Diary: December 2011

December had just this one doodle to it. Another ode to Pinoy commuting.

A Doodle Diary: November 2011

How sad is it that these doodles were done like memes.

One part observation, one part meaness, the rest just plain old bogglement.

A Doodle Diary: October 2011

October started with a thesis defense.

Big-Ass Stuff You Can Buy

Fashion?

A Doodle Diary: August 2011

August movie thoughts: why do they have titles that have nothing to do with the movie, basically?

1. "The Devil's Backbone"

A Doodle Diary: September 2011

Oh Jemain Clement. I could never do your dorky visage justice.

Something vaguely fashion-related.

Another Rant: how original!

A Doodle Diary: July 2011

July's ode to pinoy-style commuting/traffic.

(this I guess is the point where the doodles start to dwindle)

A Doodle Diary: June 2011

June starts off with Rizal, which I drew looking remarkably like Manny Pacquiao.

and a healthy reminder to all the people swimming in rocky beaches to be aware of sea urchins because they will fuck you up. Seriously.

Fashion Tips! for:

1. When you really don't know what you'll end up doing for the day

2. A sudden rainstorm hits out of nowhere.

My love for show tunes, musical numbers and Disney movies sometimes make for the most unexpected earworms.

A Doodle Diary: May 2011

Unhealthy body image not helped by the fact that I like to eat and sometimes make fun of people fatter than me:

Our house smells bad sometimes. Not entirely our fault.

The way I get ready for a trip/vacation is basically going to the mall two days prior to leaving and basically just buying all the shit I think I'd need.

Being on vacation that involves alcohol.

My thoughts on the two movies I watched for that month:
1. Water for Elephants

2. POTC: On Stranger Tides
(which I watched twice with different companions)

Having a healthy relationship means forgetting important stuff.

This was the month that a friend and classmate of mine decided to bid us farewell.

A Doodle Diary

Back in May of 2011 I bought a small, unruled notebook and started making "one-panel" doodle entries per day. Of course, because I am a lazy person it eventually stopped being regularly updated, much like this blog. And just like this blog, I spoke to non-existent readers aside from myself. Well, today I decided to blend the two together, hooray! Just so you can see how much of a potty-mouth I can be. And my mean mean mean thoughts over badly drawn doodles.

This was the first entry, glorifying the short-lived Jollibee Tuna Melt pie. I always did a Tuna Melt pie-Sprite Float combo when I had a chance.

Let's have a Creepy Monday

I doodled something at work with a panda ballpen and it turned out well enough in my opinion that I colored it in with gray kurecolor markers. It has been a long while since I last sketched freehand since working and practicing digital art.

I thought about the comics I wanted to make, about everyday Filipino stories dealing with the magical, the fantastic, the impossible, and so started doodling about the Sirena (mermaid). It is somewhat of an art subject favorite of mine, but since my lola Lumeng told us stories about mermaids in rivers when we were young these underwater creatures have creeped me out. So it's this weird fascination/creep out thing I have, I guess.

In any case I tried thinking about how a half-human half-fish malignant spirit would truly look like, and I was caught between making it look like a possible thing and just excusing it as an evolutionary dead-end (I mean, how are you going to explain the boobies AND the scales? HOW?). Or just, you know, think about Hellboy and try to rip off some designs from that style.

"Sirena", sketch, ballpoint pen and markers.

Came home, scanned it (four times, because the scanner was probably annoyed at me or something) and slapped some lazy textures and... erm... voila, I guess.

"Sirena" with the lazy-ass digital stuff.

Someday She Will Wear Midnight.

Done over the course of two days, I think. Further adventures in practicing using the pen tablet. It's easier to switch 'mediums', that's for sure.

Who's that girl? It's Tiffany Aching, from the acclaimed Discworld series of much beloved author Terry Pratchett. Someday she will wear midnight, but as of this piece she is still the quiet, intense girl who favors blues and greens and wears a much handed down pair of serviceable boots and prefers to walk instead of fly on the broomstick. And also makes award-winning (and sometimes sentient) cheeses.

I do realize this is an awful looking piece of digital art. But I should document it at least to see if I improve later on. And then be further embarrassed by myself.

It can be very versatile, depending on the user.

Things I've noticed during rains. During this week's devastating rain I personally encountered 1, 4, 5 and 6. I did 3. Number 2 was just recounted to me by my sister.

comics wednesday: POTO

Me and my friends were being silly one day. I swear to you, this was funnier being told than when put on paper. I mean, you're just gonna have to take my word for it.

... um...

It really was funny when my friend blurted it out.

It was only supposed to be a doodle.

Elephant Boy
mixed media

So months and months ago my cousin asked for a doodle that he can use as a new DP over at the FB site. And, all he really wants is a cartoony doodle, much like the one I did for him years before, but I got all worked up about it. And then halfway I got tired and then got hired and ended up not having the time to finish it. So I finally got around to finishing it tonight.

Elephant head, because I am better at drawing superimposed animal heads than actual likenesses. I like drawing people, but I am not very good with likenesses. So have some animal heads instead. Elephant, because we have a running joke about his nose.

still practicing

Judgie McJudgerson.

This is my face when I am judging you. tsk tsk.

It's easier to doodle myself to learn this pentab thing. Let's call this narcissism.

boobies

What are they for, anyway, if not to point out that I am not a man?

I meant to post something on this thingy every week, but I was recently hired. So, excuses.

Fan Art Friday

well, I didn't get to post anything yesterday. But now I have a post, and it's an old fan art piece (in three easy pieces!) of Death of the Endless from Neil Gaiman's Sandman. I actually like the Dream King most out of many many characters in that fantastic series, but Death is such a fan art magnet. As you can see, I don't really follow my pencil sketch.
